Driving from the San Jose Airport to Nosara Beach?



By Car: The first step to reach the North Pacific is to follow the “Autopista del Sol” (Highway 27) up to Caldera and from there follow the signs to Liberia which will lead you on the road called “Interamericana Norte”. Take the “Puente de la Amistad de Taiwan” or Tempisque Bridge which can be reached by following the signs to Liberia from Caldera and by turning left at the Shell Gas Station located after the entrance to a town called Las Juntas, at the turn you’ll see several signs. Follow the signs to Nicoya, through the Tempisque Bridge and turn left once you reach Nicoya. Go across the city in a straight line and continue following signs to Nosara. When you reach the gas station before Samara, you must take the right to a dirt road with signs pointing to Nosara. Continue for approximately 40 minutes until you start seeing signs to Playa Guiones.

By Bus: Approximately 6 hours via this route: San José – Nicoya – Nosara. Bus departs from San José to Nosara everyday at 5:30 a.m. The bus company is called Alfaro Buses. The San Jose terminal is in 14th street, 5th avenue. Alfaro’s telephone number is: (506) 2222-2750 or 2223-8229

By Plane:  Flights to Nosara Airport from San Jose (SJO) and Liberia (LIR) are offered daily by NatureAir, and every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday by Sansa Airline.

Liberia is the closest international airport, 2 and 1⁄2 hours drive from Nosara, Shuttles from Liberia are easily arranged, one to four people costs $150, five people costs $200, six people is $240, and $40 each additional person. Nosara's Weather


The daytime temperatures are in the high 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit. Summer time or dry months go from November through April allowing offshore winds to blow between 5-20 mph and rainy season from June through September being more humid. Overall the weather is fantastic and allows you to enjoy both seasons.
