There are moments in life when something inside asks us to slow down, breathe and truly listen. For many people, a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training is not simply a credential. It is a doorway into self-inquiry, personal expansion and the kind of inner clarity that only comes from stepping away from the noise of daily life.
The 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort, offered in partnership with iLa Yoga, is created with this intention. It is not designed to chase performance or perfection. It is an invitation to explore the depths of yoga through experience, reflection and community. And doing it in Nosara, one of the world’s most inspiring destinations for yoga and wellness, allows the training to unfold with an even deeper sense of meaning.
Here, surrounded by jungle sounds, ocean air and a community rooted in mindful living, each day becomes an opportunity to reconnect with your whole self.
Why Nosara Is the Ideal Place for Yoga Teacher Training
Nosara has a quality that is hard to describe but easy to feel. It is a blend of natural beauty, a gentle pace of life and a warm, supportive community. This unique environment creates the perfect setting for deep study and inner transformation.
The region’s blue zone energy is palpable. Mornings begin with golden light and ocean breezes, and the rhythm of the town is naturally calming. People here value wellness, presence and conscious living. This shared mindset supports everyone who arrives ready to learn, practice and grow.
Being in Nosara means studying yoga in a place where balance and connection are part of everyday life. It is a nurturing environment that allows students to focus, reflect and open themselves to the full experience of a YTT.
What Makes the Bodhi Tree 200-Hour YTT Unique
This program is Yoga Alliance certified, but its true essence goes far beyond technical standards. It is a training built on experiential learning, self-study and the understanding that yoga is lived, not memorized.
The training is led by Bridget Shae and Dakota Shae, two teachers known for their grounded presence and thoughtful, human approach. Bridget brings a deep understanding of yoga as a path of self-inquiry, while Dakota contributes essential knowledge of breathwork and physiological awareness.
Together, they guide students through movement, philosophy, anatomy, breath training and inner reflection. Every component is designed to help students embody the practice and teach from an authentic, personal place.
A Day in the Life of a YTT Student
A day in the training feels less like a schedule and more like a natural rhythm of learning, moving and integrating.
Morning:
Students begin with an energizing Vinyasa practice that wakes the body and focuses the mind. Some mornings also include meditation or breathwork to set a grounded tone for the day.
Midday:
This part of the day is dedicated to study. Anatomy lessons, philosophy discussions, cueing workshops, sequencing labs and hands-on practice create a rich environment for learning. Students work individually and in groups, supporting each other through every step.
Evening:
Evenings often close with restorative or Yin practices to unwind and process the day. There may be group discussions, reflective exercises or meditation on the beach. These moments help anchor the emotional and energetic aspects of the training.
Rest days:
Rest days are a chance to slow down. Some students explore the beach, while others enjoy a spa session or relax by the pool. These moments of pause help the body and mind integrate everything unfolding in the training.
Core Components of the Training
Alignment and Modifications
The alignment portion blends a Hatha-informed foundation with a Vinyasa approach. Students learn teaching mechanics such as cueing, demonstrating and sequencing. The focus is on clarity, presence and understanding how to guide students of different needs and abilities.
Anatomy and Breathwork
Students explore the skeletal and muscular systems, respiratory anatomy and multiple breath training methodologies. The material is taught in a clear, accessible way so that each concept becomes a practical tool for teaching safely and confidently.
Hands-On Assists
Hands-on assists are approached with sensitivity and intention. Inspired by pranassage principles, this module teaches safe and supportive techniques that help students feel guided and cared for. Communication, awareness and consent are emphasized at every step.
Yoga Philosophy
This module brings students into the spiritual and ethical roots of yoga. Through the 8 Limbs of Yoga and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, students explore how philosophy can support their personal life and their future teaching. Many trainees describe this part as one of the most transformative.
Practicum: Teach Your Yoga
Students begin teaching in a supportive, encouraging environment. Practice classes and peer feedback help build confidence and refine personal voice. This is where trainees start to understand what it means to teach from their own truth.
Additional Yogic Elements
Meditation, chanting, music and playlist creation, class structure and sequencing, injury awareness and even the business of yoga are part of the curriculum. These elements ensure that students graduate with a well-rounded foundation for teaching.
