Krista G. | Mexico

“My first of hopefully many trips with Gypset delivered beyond expectations. I was looking for a warm escape from the cold, long Minnesota winter months for some self care, and I came away with new friendships and life-long memories. That week in Tulum will be hard to beat.

Laurel and Melissa did a wonderful job keeping a good balance of leading challenging yoga and barre classes and leaving time for lounging on the beach, going on excursions or exploring the charming shops and restaurants along the road just outside the resort. They compliment each other really well as teachers and their easy-going and fun vibe with each other set the tone for a great time had by all.

The experience was inspiring on so many levels. My body felt strong and nourished, my mind was rejuvenated and my heart was full having shared so many meaningful moments with new friends. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to go again.”

Melissa Joy Schoeller

Melissa Joy Schoeller founded Gypset Yoga after five years of guest teaching yoga classes at a dozen tropical resorts around the world. As a guest teacher, she quickly saw that travel gave people the opportunity open themselves. After organizing several retreats on her own for seven years, the word of mouth from students inspired her to start Gypset Yoga with Laurel Van Matre.A consummate entrepreneur, Melissa started her first business at the age of 7, making and selling rock people (yes, people made of rocks). She has founded multiple successful businesses, including a spin/yoga studio and a boutique gift store. Both are still going strong.Melissa has taught yoga in a variety of non-traditional settings, including music festivals, brewpubs and corporate on-site. Beyond her passion for yoga and travel, she is a former mountain bike racer and renowned for her playlists.Style: vinyasa flow, yin, nidra, meditation, barre, spinning & private training.Inspiration: music, nature, travel, ritual, pause, connection & authenticity.

While many people think of yoga is as meditative, making it fun is equally important to her.As her yoga practice evolved, Laurel began sharing her experience with corporate clients as a motivational speaker and strategic consultant. Using themes from yoga, she helps people improve themselves both personally and professionally. She recently sold her garden design business to focus on her passion for yoga and innovation.Laurel is a gardner, a cyclist and a enjoys good wine and good food.
